Any horse box registered for use on the road in the EC must pass some kind of mechanical and emissions test ? known in the UK as the 'MOT', after the old Ministry of Transport. If you have a horsebox that is more than 3 years old it will need an MOT test each year to ensure that it meets at least the minimum road safety and environmental standards.

Every horsebox in the UK needs to be tested each year to ensure that it complies with roadworthiness standards. The purpose of the MOT test is to ensure that horsebox, Cars, Vans private class v mini buses over 3-years old are checked at least once a year to see that they comply with key roadworthiness and environmental requirements.

An important aspect of the Horse Box MOT is that the vehicle's equipment is Tested, by and large, to the standard to be expected during its year of manufacture. For example, the brakes and emissions of a 1919 Morris will not be Tested to the same criteria as a 2009 Mercedes Horse box.

It is essential that your Horse Box MOT certificate is kept up to date or you could invalidate your insurance should you need to make a claim and do not possess a valid certificate.

What the MOT test includes

MOT tests can be carried out on your car up to one month prior to the expiry date of an existing UK MOT certificate provided that a current MOT certificate is presented to the examiner at the time of the test.

What is an MOT? M.O.T. stands for Ministry Of Transport.All UK cars 3 years old and over require a valid MOT certificate by law.

The MOT scheme is a road safety measure designed to ensure that all cars,motorcycles and light goods vehicles more than 3 years old are properlymaintained.

At least once a year a vehicle must be examined at an authorised MOT test station to make sure that they comply with certain important requirements ofthe law.

The MOT certificate confirms that at the time of the test, without dismantling it, the vehicle met the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards required by law. It doesn't mean that the vehicle isroadworthy for the length of time the certificate is valid. The MOTcertificate is also no guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your

vehicle. The test doesn't cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox.How vehicles are tested

MOT test stations have designated test bays where they conduct the test,using a range of equipment that meets the required specification for MOT testing. The standard test procedures are laid out in an inspection manual that the test station should make available on request.

If your vehicle has failed the test, you'll be given a failure document with reference to this manual. You can watch the test from a designated viewing area but you are not allowed to interrupt the tester while he is working.

All MOT testers have been on a training course with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and their test results are checked regularly.

Who supervises the scheme?

VOSA is the government agency responsible for supervising the MOT scheme. It
does this by:

* authorising MOT test stations and approving MOT testers
* setting standards for testing and requirements for authorisation for the MOT test station and testers
* training authorised examiners and MOT testers
* visiting MOT test stations and carrying out checks to ensure testing standards and facilities are maintained
* giving advice and taking disciplinary action where tests are not being carried out to the required standards
* dealing with appeals and complaints from MOT customers

When teacher Jane Francis from Burwell village college contacted Manchetts Tyre centre for spare tyres for her reception class play area, manager Clive Connor was only too pleased to help out, but he felt to just give tyres was not really good enough and offered bulbs compost & playbark. Manchetts apprentice technician Joshua Vowden helped off load the compost and playbark into the tyres and the garden and was invited back to open the play area with the reception children. Josh was a pupil at the primary school and the children enjoyed watching him cut the ribbon.

Tyre fit manager Clive Connor said "We loved the yellow & green flags & bunting the children made for Manchetts, they all went to alot of effort and we are pleased we could help."

Tyres were filled with compost and planted with bulbs for the garden and a massive tractor tyre was left empty so the reception children can climb over and into it.

On July 1st three generations of the Manchett family will be joined by staff and customers to celebrate the site’s 50^th anniversary. The forecourt and shop will be decorated with balloons and banners, with cupcakes being handed out by staff to all customers.

The Manchett family has owned the Manchetts Jet forecourt and Budgens store on Ness road in Burwell since it first opened its doors 50 years ago on July 1^st 1961. To mark this significant milestone, the staff will be holding a day of celebrations on Friday 1^st July. Tying in with the golden anniversary theme, every 50^th customer on the day will receive a golden ticket, which can be redeemed for £25 of fuel or any Budgens goods up to the value of £25.

With an average of 1,400 customers through the door every day, up to 30 lucky individuals could be joining the site’s owners and staff in celebrating too! At the end of the day, all of the golden ticket winners will be entered into a draw for the main prize - a full tank of fuel and one of Manchetts’ own infamous Budgens’ hampers.

Manchetts is the oldest Jet dealer fuel station in the country. Manchetts Recovery have been asked to move a 1911 Fire Engine that has been in this Glass case in Colchester Road Ipswich fire station since 1960! The engine is to be housed in a Museum on Crow Street in Stowmarket. Director Sean manchett said " Its an absolute delight to be asked to move this Shand Mason 1911 fire engine and we are happy to volunteer to do this, its always a pleasure to work with the local fire service"
This should all happen on 21st July and the fire service are organising the event, with Manchetts being asked to stop at some point in Needham Market so the engine can be viewed by the public.
