Hi Peter,
I found your email address on the website, and I just wanted
to give huge thanks to two of the members of your recovery team who were
working on Friday evening (12th April) . And I am hoping you can
pass on our thanks to them.
Myself and another female colleague were travelling back
from Kent on Friday evening after a work event, when both headlights on our
company pool car failed, we were on the M11 at the time, and it was dark, so
couldn’t see to drive, and had to pull onto the hard shoulder on the M11 / A11
slip road.
Our company pool car was covered for breakdown,
unfortunately they were extremely busy and we had to wait for 1 and a half
hours on the hard Shoulder in the cold and dark. Clearly they outsourced the
job to yourselves, and one of your recovery men was on the phone to me trying
to work out our exact location, when a man in a van pulled onto the hard
shoulder a few metres behind us and turned all his lights off, I told your
driver what was happening, and he was great, and calm, for us we knew this
really wasn’t right as he had turned all his lights off, and hadn’t got out to
ask if we needed help, your driver know something was wrong too, and instructed
us to get in the car immediately and lock the doors, and try and start the
engine (the car worked just couldn’t see to drive with no lights, he stayed on
the phone asking me what was happening, as I said the man was watching us, at
which point he told us to drive slowly on the hard shoulder with our hazards on
to a safer location, and he would find us, again he stayed on the phone asking
me what was happening – the man in the van was now following behind us on the
hard shoulder.
We ended up somehow at the Genome centre at Hinxton -
where a security guard came to help us. Your telephone controller also called
me back immediately to check we were safe, as he was about to call the Police.
You recovery man then came to us there and fixed our lights.
Both of them showed real concern for our safety, and were hugely comforting in what was a very frightening situation. So I
just wanted to say a big thank you to them both, they definitely went above and
beyond, and the instructions given to me on the phone may have saved us from
something much worse than a broken down vehicle.
